Reading Path

Five stages, from the problem to the decision

Each chapter stands alone, but they were written to be read in this order.

01

Start with the problem

Before any device makes sense, it helps to understand what chronic pain is doing and why ordinary treatment stops working.

  • Why persistent pain becomes a nervous system problem rather than a tissue problem, and what that changes about treatment.

    Read
  • The spinal cord, the dorsal columns, the dorsal root ganglion and the epidural space — the territory every therapy on this site works in.

    Read
02

Understand the therapies

Three different targets, three different problems they solve. This is the core of the site.

  • The main therapy — what it is, how leads are placed, how it modulates pain signalling, and what it realistically achieves.

    Read
  • Targeting the dorsal root ganglion for focal, hard-to-cover pain — particularly CRPS and pain confined to a foot, knee or groin.

    Read
  • Stimulating a named peripheral nerve, including temporary 60-day systems that are removed rather than left in place.

    Read
03

Understand the engineering

Waveform, target and closed-loop control are where the platforms genuinely differ from each other.

  • Tonic, 10 kHz, burst, closed-loop and multiphase stimulation compared on the terms that actually distinguish them.

    Read
  • All ten FDA-approved neuromodulation manufacturers, what each platform is built around, and how to think about the differences.

    Read
04

Understand the decision

Whether you are a candidate, what the trial proves, and what the evidence does and does not support.

  • The reasoning applied on the other side of the desk — what makes a good candidate, and what should be addressed first.

    Read
  • The week that decides whether anything permanent happens, and why a failed trial is a successful process.

    Read
  • Eleven landmark studies summarised with their findings and their limitations stated plainly.

    Read
  • Four de-identified teaching cases following the reasoning from presentation through trial to outcome.

Prepare and decide

The practical layer: preparation, vocabulary, coverage and logistics.

Why the site is structured this way

Most information about spinal cord stimulation is written either by a manufacturer, in which case it is about one device, or by a clinician for other clinicians, in which case it is unreadable. This library is an attempt at the missing thing: an account thorough enough to be genuinely useful and plain enough to be read.

Use what you've learned in a conversation

Discuss your history, imaging and questions with a clinician you choose. This site does not arrange appointments; U.S. directory listings are an unverified starting point.
