Spinal cord stimulation
BIOTRONIK Neuro
BIOTRONIK entered the U.S. neuromodulation market with Prospera, which pairs a proprietary multiphase stimulation paradigm called RESONANCE with Embrace One — a remote care model built on automatic daily data transmission rather than periodic office visits alone.

In BIOTRONIK's own words
Get reliable relief from your chronic pain. Only the Prospera® SCS System has RESONANCE®, a proprietary therapy that leverages how the body processes pain. It was designed to stimulate a broader area of your nerves.1 Prospera allows you to get full-body 1.5T and 3T MRI scans in normal operating conditions, so you can have peace of mind that you have access to the most advanced MRI scans.
Embrace One® is another unique BIOTRONIK Neuro advantage. It is a patient support system that allows for automatic, daily, remote monitoring of your therapy. Your Embrace One Care Team is made up of trained, dedicated specialists who monitor your therapy 7 days a week to ensure that it is working the best for you.

The Signature Technology
RESONANCE multiphase stimulation and Embrace One
RESONANCE uses a charge-distributed, spatially and temporally varied pulse pattern intended to activate the dorsal horn, where pain signals are processed, at lower power than conventional approaches. What is arguably just as distinctive is the care model around it: Embrace One transmits device and therapy data automatically every day through HomeStream, so the care team can see how the system is performing without the patient having to report a problem first.
How It Works
From lead placement to therapy delivery
- 01
A trial is done first, as with any spinal cord stimulator: temporary leads are placed in the epidural space and worn for several days at home to see whether the therapy helps before anything is implanted.
- 02
At implant, permanent leads are placed in the epidural space over the target segments and connected to the Prospera generator, which sits in a small pocket under the skin.
- 03
The BioARC stimulation engine delivers the RESONANCE multiphase pattern, distributing charge across the array over space and time rather than repeating an identical pulse at a fixed contact — the stated aim is to activate a broader area of the dorsal horn at lower energy.
- 04
The system pairs with the patient's home equipment and transmits device and therapy data automatically every day through HomeStream. No button-pressing or scheduled upload is required.
- 05
The Embrace One Care Team reviews those daily transmissions seven days a week, so a battery, lead or programming issue can surface between office visits rather than at the next appointment.
- 06
Because checks can be done remotely, routine follow-up — including the device checks required before and after an MRI scan — can often be handled without an extra trip to the office.
The Platforms
3 systems in the family
Each system in this family is built on the same underlying technology, but they differ in power source, size and intended use.
Prospera SCS System
Multiphase SCS with remote management
The company's U.S. spinal cord stimulation system, approved by the FDA in March 2023. It is the only system that carries RESONANCE multiphase therapy.
- RESONANCE multiphase stimulation, delivered by the BioARC engine
- Full-body 1.5T and 3T MRI in normal operating conditions
- Rechargeable generator with daily automatic data transmission
- Programming is done without the patient needing to report a problem first
Embrace One
Patient support and proactive care programme
BIOTRONIK Neuro's remote care model — a dedicated care team that monitors therapy data seven days a week and works alongside the implanting practice.
- Automatic daily remote monitoring of the implanted system
- Trained specialists reviewing transmissions seven days a week
- Support and management only — not a diagnostic or treatment service
HomeStream
Automatic data transmission
The transmission layer behind Embrace One. It sends device and therapy data from the patient's home each day without the patient having to initiate it.
- Daily transmission with no patient action required
- Supports remote device checks, including pre- and post-MRI checks
- Provides trend data across time rather than a single snapshot in clinic
The Evidence
What has been published
Each study is given with its design, who was actually in it, what it found and where it falls short — then a link to the paper itself, so you can check any of it. Most device trials are manufacturer-funded; that is normal in this field and it is labelled here rather than glossed over.
BENEFIT-02
A prospective, multicenter, randomized, single-blind feasibility study of multiphase stimulation during an extended trial period. In the home setting, a majority of participants reported greater relief with multiphase than with their commercial SCS therapy, alongside reported improvements in sleep quality and physical activity.
BENEFIT-03
A prospective single-arm study evaluating Prospera in chronic intractable pain of the trunk and limbs, with interim analyses reporting favourable safety, effectiveness, and experience with remote device management.
Functional ultrasound imaging of multiphase programming
Lim K, et al. used functional ultrasound imaging to characterise how clinical spinal cord stimulation programming activates neural tissue. BIOTRONIK cites this work as the basis for the claim that RESONANCE was designed to stimulate a broader area of the nerves. The paper is listed as in press in the Journal of Pain Research, so the full methods and results were not yet publicly available at the time of writing — worth knowing when weighing the claim.
Review literature
A published review of the Prospera system covering multiphase stimulation and the proactive-care model is available in the peer-reviewed literature.
What has not been done
There is no head-to-head randomized trial comparing Prospera with the other modern platforms on this site. That is true of every manufacturer here, and it is the single biggest reason device choice is a discussion rather than a calculation.
These are the studies specific to BIOTRONIK. For the trials that shaped the whole field — and for how to read an industry-sponsored study fairly — see the clinical evidence library.
The Trade-offs
What to weigh before choosing this platform
No system is the right answer for every patient. These are considerations to discuss with the clinician who knows your history.
Remote monitoring changes the follow-up relationship — it is a real benefit for some patients and an adjustment for others. Some people find daily transmission reassuring; some find it intrusive.
Embrace One is a support and management platform; it is not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment. It does not replace your physician, and it does not monitor for medical emergencies.
Daily transmission requires the home equipment to be set up and powered where the patient sleeps, and depends on a working connection.
The generator is rechargeable, which means a recharging routine for the life of the device.
Prospera is a newer entrant in the United States, so its long-term real-world follow-up data is shorter than that of the longest-established platforms.
Prospera is approved in the United States and is not available outside the U.S.
MRI access is stated for full-body 1.5T and 3T scanning in normal operating conditions; as with every system, the current MRI guidelines document defines the actual conditions and must be checked before any scan.
Regulatory status
Prospera received FDA approval in March 2023 for the management of chronic pain of the trunk and/or limbs.
Indications, contraindications, warnings and MRI conditions are defined by the current labeling. Review the manufacturer's Instructions for Use at biotronik.com and discuss them with your physician.
